Galapagos  Tortoises -  I have always loved turtles. I always dreamed of going to the  Galapagos Islands to see the giant tortoises. This summer I had the opportunity  to travel to the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador through a three-week environmental studies program offered by Washington College and the Universidad  San Fransciso de Quito. I couldn't believe the beauty of it all. In the Galapagos, I was in heaven! I had to opportunity to learn about the giant  tortoises in their natural habitat instead of the San Diego Zoo. Consequently, I  created this website so that I might share not only the experience but also what I learned about these giants.

Gamera the Mississippi Mud Turtle's Home Page  - Gamera is a Mississippi Mud Turtle (Kinosternon subrubrum hippocrepis). We are certain of this now. We also now know he is indeed a he. When we first got him, we didn't know for sure. He just  'seemed' like a him to us, so that is how we called him.
