MALTESE
History - the Maltese is the most ancient of the European breeds, and among the oldest of all breeds. It originates from the island of Malta. Maltese dogs are specifically mention in writings as early as 300 B.C. Greek art depicts these dogs from the 5th century. Most Maltese dogs today come in the color white, but in the earlier days they came in a variety of colors. The AKC recognized the breed in 1888.
Temperament - This a favorite when it comes to lapdogs. A very loving breed and tends to show favoritism to one person. They are bold and feisty and may challenge bigger dogs. Some bark a lot.
Upkeep - The exercise needs are easily met with indoor play or a romp in the yard. The Maltese is not an outdoor dog. Its coat needs combing every one or two days. Rusty looking stains appear on most Maltese dogs and can be cleaned using household ingredients.
Size - Under 7 pounds and heights of 9-10 inches.
